We Model.

Why hello again. Here at CHIS, we love 3D Modeling.  3D Modeling helps us all to think like Engineers and Designers. We learn to break problems down into simpler, solvable chunks.  We see how backwards problem solving can be very efficient to accomplish challenges.  This is a year-long course that is reserved for 8th graders.

#1

Measurement

One of the first concepts students learn in 3D Modeling is measurement.  Now I know from teaching elementary school that measurement is taught with rulers in elementary school.  But it seems that if you put a tape measure in their hands they forget all of their fractions!  So we re-teach measurement, conversion from inches to feet-and-inches and vice-versa.  We add and divide measurement to find the center of objects, walls and other things.

#2

Scale

The second major concept students learn in 3D Modeling is the concept of scale.  Without scaling of objects models will appear lifeless and cartoony.  Our goal is to create lifelike real-scale models.

#3

Model

Next, we model.  We model nonsense objects without scale to learn tools.  Then we begin by doing guided practice with a familiar object like a table.  Then we move on to choose an object of choice, measure and model the object.  After we have mastered objects, we move on to interiors and exteriors.

Print

After this, we head to the most exciting step.  We print!  We are still in the process of acquiring several 3D Printers to complete our 3D Modeling experience here at CHIS, but once we get them the possibilities are limitless!
